Ashdraked 👎🏻

Named after a Romanian trader who spectacularly failed in shorting bitcoin, this is the process of losing all your money by shorting bitcoin.

Astroturfing 👺

A misleading act performed where a sponsor is hidden, meaning it looks as if the marketing message broadcasted is strongly supported when it is not.

Bag 💰

One’s collection of a cryptocurrency as part of a portfolio. Usually refers to having a lot of one crypto (heavy bags).

BTFD 📉

Buy the F***** Dip. An animated expression used by a cryptocurrency’s supporters calling on others to buy whilst prices is at a low.

Dead Cat Bounce 😿

A non-permanent improvement in prices after a massive drop.

Diamond Hands 💎🙌🏻

An investor with high risk tolerance, able to stomach high volatility. They don’t panic sell!

Dolphin 🐬

Somebody who owns a moderate amount of a cryptocurrency.

DYOR 🤓

Do your own research.

ELI5 👶🏼

Explain Like I’m 5. Dumb it down.

Fiat 💵

Legal tender, which is backed by a central government, i.e. the US Dollar.

Fish 🐟

Somebody who owns an insignificant amount of a cryptocurrency. Vulnerable to the actions of whales.

FUD 🚨 

Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. A term brandished to those who try to change the perception of cryptocurrency through the distribution of misleading or negative information.

GMI 🏆

Gonna make it. Used to appreciate oneself or others.

“Bought Bitcoin at $10,000. GMI.”

HODL 😰

Hold On for Dear Life. The strategy of holding onto an investment for a long period of time, regardless of any price swings.

JOMO 😏

Joy of Missing Out. Usually used when a no-coiner does not get involved with a cryptocurrency and it then plummets in value/is revealed as a scam after they could have bought in.

Moon 🌙

The process of a cryptocurrency’s price continuously going up.

NGMI 😪

Not going to make it. Used to belittle oneself or others. 

“Sold my Bitcoin at $5,000. NGMI.”

Probably nothing 🐸☕️

Means probably something. Used sarcastically. 

“The US Government has just announced it will replace the Dollar with Dogecoin. Probably nothing.”

Ponzi Scheme ⚠️

A fraudulent scheme involving the generation of returns for the early investors using the money contributed by new investors.

Pump and Dump Scheme 💩

A scheme orchestrated by fraudsters where a securities price is artificially ‘pumped’ using misleading positive messages to attract new investors. The fraudsters then ‘dump’ the security at an inflated price and new investors are often left at a loss.

REKT 💀

Wrecked. A bad loss.

Rug Pull

When a cryptocurrency’s developers run away with investors funds. Similar to pump and dump.

Shilling 🪙

The act of passionately promoting a cryptocurrency.

Sh*tcoin 🚮

A coin with zero clear potential value or usage.

Weak Hands 🧻🙌🏻

An investor susceptible to panic selling as soon as the going gets tough.

Whale 🐳

An investor who owns a substantially large amount of crypto. Often able to manipulate the market.
