Earning Passive Income From Content Creation - Are You the Next Big Youtuber?

Featuring our must-read tips for success!

  • Passive income streams usually require a lot of initial work and may require constant attention, so it’s not entirely “passive”.
  • If you wish to start earning passive income, you should be patient and expect to start slow.
  • Platforms, such as YouTube, enable registered content creators to get paid depending on the traffic generated by their content.

Content Creation

If you cannot secure or do not want to go through the trouble of obtaining copyright for your content, you could always post it online as free content. On some platforms, such as YouTube, registered content creators get paid depending on the traffic generated by their content. As such, passive income will flow in as long as your content stays up and continues getting viewership. Here are some tips on being successful with YouTube:

  • For maximum search engine optimisation, go into detail about the video title, description, category, tags, etc
  • Don’t just upload the video and wait for the views to come in! Be proactive with promoting your video on social media, forums and amongst your friends and family
  • Create videos that remain engaging throughout! The amount you can earn from YouTube varies depending on your video's engagement levels. For example, different engagement levels could be the difference between earning 50 cents per 1000 views or earning $10 per 1000 views
  • Don’t focus on earning passive income straight away! Passive income will only follow if you upload high-quality content, so focus on the product first
  • Prepare for videos before you upload them. This gives your brand some consistency and focuses on quality and originality

Membership or donation platforms such as Patreon and Kofi also allow content creators to earn a more stable income from their fans and supporters. On these platforms, supporters can subscribe to exclusive content or simply pledge an amount of money (recurring or otherwise) to their favourite content creators as a form of financial support to keep the free content coming. Perhaps only consider these platforms if you have already gained a following on other free-to-use platforms, such as YouTube.
